Product Photography in Ahmedabad

A good share of our work comes from Gujarat, and the mix is different from what arrives from anywhere else. Three categories dominate, and each one brings its own photographic problem.

Textiles and apparel. Ahmedabad has been a textile city for a century and a half and it still is. Garments are the one category where a flat pack shot answers nothing: buyers are judging drape, weave and true colour, so the work is model or ghost mannequin rather than a product on white. Fabric needs light that rakes across the surface instead of flattening it, and colour has to hold across an entire size and shade run. A run that drifts looks like it was shot on different days, because it was. If you list on Myntra or Ajio, both want portrait, and both want the garment on a body.

Pharma and nutraceuticals. Gujarat produces roughly a third of India's pharmaceutical output, and a lot of that has spun into consumer supplement brands. These shoots are governed by the label rather than the aesthetic. The back panel is not an optional extra slot: ingredients, dosage, batch and expiry have to be legible at listing size, or the buyer leaves and asks a question you then answer by hand. Glossy laminated cartons and foil blisters also reflect everything in the room, which is slow to light and is where cheap quotes quietly cut time.

Packaged snacks and FMCG. Gujarat exports namkeen and packaged food nationally, and that category has moved onto quick commerce faster than any other. On Blinkit and Zepto most buyers never open the product page, so the pack has to be readable as a thumbnail on a phone. That is a different brief from an Amazon listing and it changes which face of the pack points at the camera.

How the distance actually works

Ahmedabad to our Thane studio is a little over 500 km, so nobody is dropping in to watch the shoot. That is worth planning around rather than pretending otherwise. Products come by courier, we shoot, retouch and send the files back with the raw frames, and the whole cycle runs five to seven working days from the day the box lands.

Two things follow from that. Send a spare unit of anything that has to be opened, swatched or plated, because a second attempt is a second courier rather than a second minute. And tell us every marketplace you sell on before the shoot, not after, because cutting one session for three destinations costs nothing at the time and reshooting for the second one costs the whole job.
