Product Photography in Surat

Surat is the two things at once: the world's largest diamond-cutting and polishing centre, and one of India's biggest manufacturers of synthetic and blended fabric. Almost nothing we get from Surat looks like anything we get from anywhere else.

Diamonds and gemstone jewellery. A loose stone is not lit the way a finished product is. Broad, even light kills a diamond's fire; it needs a small, controlled source through diffusion so the facets throw dispersion instead of turning into one flat white shape. Set jewellery adds a second problem on top: enough depth of field to keep every prong and stone sharp while the metal itself, gold or platinum, does not blow out under the same light that is trying to make the stone sparkle. It is two competing requirements in one frame, and most of the cost difference between a cheap jewellery shoot and a good one is exactly there.

Synthetic and blended textiles. Surat produces synthetic sarees and dress material at a scale few cities match, and synthetic fibre behaves nothing like cotton or silk under a light. Shoot it the way you would shoot a natural fabric and it reads plasticky, with a sheen that looks artificial rather than rich. The fix is in the lighting angle, not the fabric: enough rake to show the weave without letting the surface bounce straight back at the lens. Colour consistency matters more here than almost any other category, because a printed border that shifts shade between metre one and metre fifty of the same run looks like a manufacturing defect on a listing even when the fabric is fine.

Surat to Thane

Surat to our Thane studio is a little over 300 km, close enough that the courier cycle is fast but far enough that almost nobody drives down to sit in on the shoot. Product comes by courier, we shoot, retouch and send the files back with the raw frames, and the whole cycle runs five to seven working days from the day the box lands.

Send a spare stone or a longer fabric swatch than you think you need, because a reshoot from Surat is a second courier docket, not a second minute on set. Insure jewellery shipments the way you would for a buyer, and for fabric send enough of the actual production run for us to check colour across it rather than a single cut sample. Tell us every marketplace you plan to list on before the shoot; one session covering three destinations costs nothing extra, and going back for a fourth costs the whole job again.
