What Blinkit asks for
- There is no public image specification to download. Blinkit onboards brands through a category manager, and the current brief comes from them.
- A pack shot that still reads at thumbnail size, because almost all Blinkit shopping happens on a phone.
- Weight, variant and flavour legible in the small tile, since shoppers choose between pack sizes without ever opening the product page.
- Photography is one part of onboarding. GSTIN, GS1 barcodes and an FSSAI licence for food come first, and the whole process usually runs four to eight weeks.
Blinkit is the largest of the three quick commerce apps and the shelf is crowded to match. In most grocery categories your pack lands in a scrolling grid beside five competitors in near-identical packaging, at a size where none of the copy on any of them can be read.
That is a different problem from Amazon and it is worth being blunt about it. On Amazon a buyer who is interested opens the listing, reads bullets, scrolls images and zooms. On a ten minute grocery order most people never open the product page at all. The tile is the listing. Everything the image has to do, it does at the size of a postage stamp while someone is scrolling.
So the shoot is planned backwards from the thumbnail. The pack fills the frame rather than sitting politely inside it. The face pointing at camera is the one carrying the weight and the variant, not necessarily the prettiest face. Edges are defined and there is enough shadow to separate a pale pack from the white grid it sits on, which is where light-coloured packaging quietly disappears.
One more thing that changes the maths. Blinkit now earns over a thousand crore a year from advertising, which means a meaningful part of the grid you are competing in is paid placement. Paying for a slot and then putting a weak pack shot in it is the expensive version of this mistake.
We shoot Blinkit sets on the same courier-in basis as everything else. Send packs to our Thane studio, we shoot, retouch and return the files with the raw frames included. Rates run Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per image, moving with pack complexity and volume. If you want the method rather than the service, how to take product photos for Blinkit covers it.
Selling on more than one marketplace?
They want different things, so plan the shoot once rather than paying twice.
