What Swiggy Instamart asks for
- Onboarding runs as a brand process through Swiggy, with a category manager supplying the current image brief. Nothing is published publicly.
- A clean pack shot that holds together in a small mobile tile.
- Appetite appeal for anything edible, because Instamart sits inside an app people open when they are hungry.
- FSSAI for food, GS1 barcodes and GSTIN, same as the other two.
The thing that separates Instamart from Blinkit and Zepto is not the specification. It is where the shopper came from. Someone on a dedicated grocery app is usually working through a list they already had in their head. Someone on Instamart is often inside the Swiggy app for a different reason, having just ordered food or thought about it, and is browsing rather than fetching.
That is an impulse context, and for edible products it changes what the image is being asked to do. On a list-driven platform the job is identification: help me find the thing I already decided to buy. Here part of the job is persuasion, and a pack shot that shows the food as well as the packaging does more work than the pack alone. A biscuit pack with biscuits in frame, a cold drink with condensation on the bottle, a ready meal plated.
There is a line to hold there. Making the food look good is fair. Making it look like something that is not in the pack is a returns and reviews problem, and on a platform where the same customer reorders weekly it is a bad trade.
For anything not edible, Instamart goes back to the plain rules the other two follow: white background, product filling the frame, variant legible at tile size, range shot consistently.
We do both halves in one session, since the same brand usually needs the pack shots and the food photography. Courier the products to our Thane studio, we shoot and return the files with raw frames. Pricing runs Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per image. The practical version is in how to take product photos for Swiggy Instamart.
Selling on more than one marketplace?
They want different things, so plan the shoot once rather than paying twice.
