What makes perfume hard to photograph
Glass reflects the room. A bare studio puts windows, lights and the photographer into the bottle, so reflections have to be placed deliberately with cards and flags.
Liquid colour changes with the light behind it. The shade in the bottle has to match the real fragrance, because a buyer sees the bottle first.
A metal cap and a printed label need different light. The cap needs a soft edge to show its finish, while the label needs even light so the name stays readable at thumbnail size.
A faceted bottle bends light into its edges. The edges have to stay defined, or the bottle turns into a soft shape.
How we shoot fragrance
- Reflections built with cards and flags, so the glass has edges and the room stays out of it.
- Liquid colour checked against the real bottle before files go out.
- Cap and label lit separately where they need it, so the finish and the text both read.
- A hero frame for the brand site and campaigns, and a clean white background frame for marketplaces, from the same session.
- In-hand frames where scale matters, with the label kept legible.
