Product Shoot Cost in India: What Actually Decides the Bill

The per-image rate is the easy part. What actually decides what a product shoot costs is how many images each product needs, worked through with real numbers.

    Shot by Team TSB

Our range for product photography is Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per image. For a plain product shoot, that number answers less than most people expect, because the rate is per image and a shoot is almost never one image. What decides the total is how many images each product actually needs, not the rate on its own.

Why the per-image rate is not the bill

A studio quoting Rs 800 per image and one quoting Rs 1,200 per image are not automatically Rs 400 apart. If the first covers four images per product and the second covers six, the second is often the cheaper booking once the shot list is compared properly. Ask what one unit of a quote actually includes before comparing two numbers against each other.

For a first shoot, most brands need more per product than they plan for: a white background hero, one or two alternate angles, a detail shot, and often a lifestyle frame if the images are also going on a website or social page. Budgeting for one photo per product when the day actually needs four or five is the most common way a first-time quote runs short.

    A worked example

Ten products at four images each, at Rs 800 per image, is forty images and Rs 32,000. The same ten products at two images each is twenty images and Rs 16,000. The rate did not change. The image count did. Before asking what a shoot costs, work out what each product needs shown, because that number moves the bill more than the rate you are quoted.

Volume moves the per-image number itself too. A fifty product batch generally prices lower per image than a five product batch, because the lighting and studio setup is shared across the whole session rather than rebuilt for each small booking.

What moves the total up or down

Product mix matters. A shoot with ten matte cardboard boxes and ten glass bottles is not two identical jobs at double the count, the glass takes longer to light and a fair quote reflects that rather than averaging it away. Reshoots cost time even when they are not billed separately, because a session planned for one pass and needing two runs into the day's other bookings, which is why a clear shot list agreed before the day is the cheapest way to avoid one. Rush turnaround, styling and props beyond a plain product shoot typically move the number up as well.

What to check before you book

Ask exactly what is included per product: white background, alternate angles, a detail shot, a lifestyle frame, and how many of each. Ask what a reshoot costs if a batch needs one. Ask whether raw files come back alongside retouched ones, since that changes what you can do with the set later without booking again. And ask how the number changes as your SKU count grows, since most quotes assume a specific batch size and stop being accurate outside it.

Our product shoot page covers what a typical session includes, session by session. For the wider market and how pricing differs by category, the general pricing guide has the full breakdown, and furniture and cosmetics are worth reading if your batch includes either, since both are priced differently from a standard shoot.
