Jewellery Photography Price in India: Why It Sits at the Top of the Range

Jewellery photography costs more than most categories because of how it is lit, not because it is jewellery. What actually drives the number, and what to ask before you book.

Marketplace listing images for jewellery run Rs 150 to Rs 500 per image, the same as any other category. Studio and creative work runs Rs 500 to Rs 2,500 per image, and jewellery sits toward the top of that range more often than most categories, because of what each piece needs on set rather than what it is worth.

Why jewellery costs more to shoot

A polished metal surface is a mirror with curves, and a bare studio produces a dull grey piece rather than one that reads as gold or silver. Getting the reflections right takes cards and gobos built around the individual piece, not a lighting setup reused across a tray of products. Gold tone adds another layer: yellow gold, rose gold and gold plate all shift differently under the same light, and each has to be checked against the physical piece rather than judged on a screen.

    The per-piece problem

Most product categories batch efficiently: light it once, work through a tray of similar items. Jewellery does not batch the same way. A ring, a pendant and a pair of earrings each reflect differently and each needs its own attention to look right, so a twelve-piece jewellery set takes closer to twelve individual setups than one setup shot twelve times. That is the main reason the per-image number lands higher than a matte product of similar size.

    What adds to the quote

Macro detail on clasps, hallmarks and settings is usually worth including separately, since it answers the trust question a jewellery buyer has that a wide shot cannot. Model or hand shots, worth it wherever scale matters, are priced as their own line since they involve a model booking on top of the product photography. Piece handling and insured return shipping also factor in on higher value work, and any studio that does not ask about declared value has not priced that part of the job.

What to ask before you book

Ask whether the quote is per piece or per finished image, since a single ring might need three angles plus a macro detail. Ask how gold tone is checked before delivery, and ask directly whether the studio has shot reflective metal before rather than judging from a general portfolio.
