What separates advertising photography from a product shot
A product shot answers a question a buyer already has: what does this look like, what size is it, what colour. Advertising photography has to create interest that was not there before it was seen, which is a different job even when the same object is in front of the same camera.
That changes what the image is built around. A concept, a headline, a piece of copy, or a brand idea comes first, and the photography is built to carry it rather than to document the product neutrally.
