Product Photography Cost in Mumbai: What Sellers Actually Pay

Real per-image ranges for Amazon and marketplace shoots in Mumbai, what moves the number up or down, and the hidden costs that show up after the invoice.

Product Photography Cost in Mumbai: What Sellers Actually Pay

Nobody publishes their rate card, so every seller ends up asking the same question in a WhatsApp group. Here is the honest answer, including the parts studios usually leave out.

    The short answer

Most product photography in Mumbai lands between ₹150 and ₹500 per image. That is the working range for marketplace and catalogue shoots, and it covers the bulk of what Amazon and Flipkart sellers need.

Below ₹150 you are usually buying volume white-background work with minimal styling. Above ₹500 you are into creative direction, models, sets or heavy retouching, and the number stops being a per-image figure at all.

    What moves the number

SKU count. This is the biggest lever. A single product costs more per image than the same product shot as part of a 40 SKU catalogue, because the lighting setup gets amortised across the batch. If you are quoting one item and comparing it to a bulk rate you saw somewhere, you are comparing two different things.

How much styling it needs. A bottle on white is fast. The same bottle with props, a surface, and a considered background takes setup time, and setup time is what you are actually paying for.

Retouching depth. Background removal and a clean-up is standard. Compositing, liquid pours, splash work and skin retouching are not.

Whether you need infographics. Listing infographics and A+ content are design work sitting on top of the photography. Some studios fold it in, some price it separately. Ask which.

Category. Jewellery, glassware and anything reflective takes longer to light than a box does. Food needs a stylist and a shorter shot window before it stops looking fresh.

The costs that show up later

The per-image number is not the whole invoice. Three things catch sellers out.

Reshoots. If the images come back off-spec for the marketplace, you pay twice. Amazon wants pure white on the main image, the product filling roughly 85 percent of the frame, and a minimum of 1000 pixels on the longest side so zoom works. A studio that does not shoot for marketplaces regularly will miss these.

Courier both ways. You are shipping product to a studio and getting it back. On a large catalogue this is not trivial.

Raw files. Some studios deliver only the retouched selects and charge for the rest. You shot it, you should get it. Ask before you book, not after.

Cheap is expensive on a listing

A ₹80 image that gets your listing suppressed costs more than a ₹300 image that does not. Amazon rejects main images with props, text overlays, watermarks or a background that is not pure white, and the rejection arrives after you have uploaded a full catalogue.

The other cost is invisible. Your thumbnail is competing against every other thumbnail on the results page. You do not get told you lost that click. You just see a lower conversion rate and blame the price.

What a quote should tell you

A quote worth taking seriously answers five things without being chased. Per-image or per-SKU rate. What counts as a reshoot and who pays. Turnaround from the day the product arrives. Whether raw files are included. Whether infographics and A+ content are in or extra.

If a studio will not put turnaround in writing, that is the answer to a different question.

    How we price it

We work in the same ₹150 to ₹500 band, and where you land depends on SKU count and styling. Bulk catalogues come down. Raw frames are always included alongside the retouched selects.

Our studio is in Thane and most sellers courier their products to us rather than lose a day to traffic. Turnaround is five to seven days from the day the product lands, covering shoot, retouch and delivery. Full details on the Amazon product photography in Mumbai page, or send us your SKU count on the quote page and we will come back with a fixed number.

If you would rather see the quality before you commit, we shoot the first product free. Send one SKU and judge it on the file, not on a rate card.
